Do not open email attachments from strangers and unknown sources. Opening spam or junk email – especially unknown attachments – risks a spyware infection that could cripple your computer, damage your files or steal your personal information.
Download responsibly. Make sure that you only download software from companies that you trust. File sharing services can be a source ofinfection, as can pirated software. There are an increasing number of spyware programs that masquerade as anti-spyware programs. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a program, avoid it.
When you get unwanted pop-ups or dialog boxes, close them by clicking on the X in the top corner, or by pressing Alt + F4 in Microsoft Windows. You do not have to click AGREE or CANCEL to close a window.
